Beech time 2009

Our number one beech bum. Fergus.

His canine speedboat impression. Just like his mum he has to be first to the retrieve article, unfortunately for his mum, who is equally as keen, his bigger stride gives him more reach when running and he pips Saffie to the post most times. Saffie has to use her brains and quick movements to outwit him.

He has that collie-like obsessiveness about balls.

Saffie has decided she wants a break from obedience and just wants to be a slightly loopey family dog and mum for a while. It doesn't suit her! Unlike Fergus who spits balls out at you for them to be thrown, Saffie will always go out and get the retrieve article and take it back out of the water. Frustrating when your in the water with her!

Fergus and his cheeky look. He still loves plastic bottles. He used to play with them as a pup. Here he has stolen a water bottle and began chewing it up! He loves being naughty! Saffie on the other hand would not dare do such a thing!

Our very handsome Mr Fergus. As the obedience season is coming to an end (for Saffie anyway!) have began looking at shows for Fergus again. Except he is out of coat at the moment so we may have to wait awhile for it to grow again.

Since Saffie was spayed she has become more and more of a foody. No real manners were instilled in her as a pup as she was just simply not interested in begging. Now, now you have to watch her.. if its one of her favorate foods like cheese she has hear that packet from anywhere in the house and is there in an instant. If you not careful she will creep closer and closer to you when you eat and before you know it she is casually licking your sandwich!

Saffie is ever so obedient . When at the beech we went for a swim she decided she didn't want to so (albeit a little confused about our whereabouts) just went and sat with our things and waited for us to return. She is a a wonderful girl and what a dog should be.

Fergus is good with other dogs. He has a very male-like attitude and really does think he is the best thing since sliced bread around other dogs, especially other un-neutered males! Ideally he should be neutered because its obviously not fair on him but as you cannot show neutered males and he is not a major problem we are leaving him be for the moment.

The two are very close but mainly because they have the same hobbies.

Saffie

Fergus has perfected the technique of carrying two tennis balls in his mouth at one..now how this talent can progress...I dread to know!

One notable missing comrade was Molly. The beech does nothing for Molly so she stayed at home. She doesn't like the water, the sand or the rocks. Molly is doing well coming up to 11 years old. She has me (well always has had me) twisted round her little finger. If something is too much effort she gets me to lift her so she is quite happy. She still runs off and eats things. But is definitely more confident (or stupid) than she used to be as she going down drops into rivers when its hot, plunging in..Fergus following. She would never have done that a few years ago. She would only go in shallow water with an easy slope!
