Fergus has been back to the vets. The vet said his condition has improved in that, his abscess has reduced in size and his tail is beginning to heal. This does not mean he is back to normal and he will need to be monitored carefully to make sure he continues to improve. Fergus is such a nice boy and does not deserve any of this! In the meantime he has been his usual fun loving self and has not been fazed by his ordeal!

Fergus and Molly have now gone away on holiday for two weeks visiting the seaside in Wales and the family in Manchester. Saffie came into season on the day they were leaving so had to be left behind with me! Which is a shame because she loves the sea so much! Maybe next time Saf!

Fergus has been at the vets this past week as he has managed to damage his tail. He has taken the skin off the end so the bone pokes through. The vet says the injury could be the result of him getting his tail trapped in a door. Which to our knowledge, he has not done! Its a mystery. The vet hoped that the injury would heal but it has not. The end of his tail has now "died". If the end does not fall off soon it is like that they will have to operate to remove it. Poor puppy. To add to that, the injection site on his neck has formed an abscess which will need to be drained/remove via an operation if it does not heal. All of which may find Fergus partly shaved and missing part of his tail and thus unable to enter the show ring as planned next month if at all in the future. Tail dependent.

We will have to hope that Fergus improves as its not nice and risky for anything to go under anaesthetic.

We will keep the site updated on his progress.

While at Shoreham we took the opportunity to take Fergus to the seaside for the first time. Pictures can be found here: Fergus at Shoreham-By-Sea.

Fergus achieved his puppy foundation certificate, an award he probably could have passed within a couple of weeks training. He is now being moved up two classes and will be in training for the Bronze Good Citizen in September. The only part of the award which require any sort of effort is the 1 minute stay, which we will need to work on!

Saffie achieved her long awaited Silver Good Citizen, an award she could of passed a few years ago. She loved the attention and really "over did it", gaining the award in style. Unfortunately the rest of the club who took the award struggled as the test was in the park with lots of distractions, including a dead bird! Resulting in only Saffie and Bill (the black Labrador, who came to see the puppies) gaining the award.

And a tired dog!

This weekend there was a double show in Kent, so we decided to stop the night over there, staying in a tent. Boy did it rain! It was Fergus first camping experience and he was excellent taking it all in his stride! He loved meeting his adoring public!

Fergus attended his first ringcraft class today! He was a little star! Everyone was so impressed with him and surprised that he was only 12 weeks because he was so well behaved! Fergus found all the other dogs scary at first but then decided they were all just good fun and played with a fully grown Bernese Mountain Dog! I was very pleased with him.

Molly gained Reserve Best In Show at Mount Noddy Companion show today!

All the puppies have now gone to their new homes. We wish them the best of luck. Fergus misses all of his friends, as its just boring here without them!

Saffie surprised us by going into labour today, three days early. She was good, she waited until a suitable hour before going into labour. None of this middle of the night malarkey. Nine healthy pups were born by caesarian mid afternoon on the 16th. Seven boys and two girls!

Saffie now has one week to go before whelping, very scary but it doesn't seem to bother Saf!

She loves her balls!

Saffie has also started to take this pregnancy into her own hands and has began making her den at the end of the garden, I hope she's not serious!

03/02/08

The whelping box has been made and Saffie seems to approve as it has become the place for her to take things to to shred! She must like it if she gives it that honour!

End of the year summary

This year has been a good year for us at Serenedrift. The girls have excelled them selves in the show ring and Saffie has matured into a really nice dog. We also applied for our kennel name, had all the tests done on Saffie pre-mating and got her mated! We look forward to what next year may bring and hope that our successes continue. We hope that the first litter born at Serenedrift goes well and that mum and pups are healthy and happy. Happy New Year to you all from all at Serenedrift.
