Feeding

We feed James Wellbeloved because it seems to be the only food that agrees with Molly! Its a complete dog food which requires no extras to be added. It is also gluten free, as many dogs, including Molly are gluten intolerant. Wild dogs do not go around eating wheat do they! It contains all natural ingredients and promotes a healthy coat and skin. We have had Molly on senior light for years now because it seems to be the only food which will enable her to keep her weight down, stomach well and to be fed tip bits when needed.

Feeding your puppy…

Your puppy has been weaned onto James Wellbeloved Puppy, Lamb, from 2 ½ weeks old. We have been soaking the biscuits to make them easier to digest for the puppies. You can gradually mix less water with them until the puppies can eat them unsoaked. If you wish to change the diet we suggest that you consult your vet and make any changes gradually. For a new puppy, the previous routine may provide stability for them. We would also like to mention that too much changing of diet can produce a dog that has a very weak stomach; therefore if they do not seem to like a food persevere as they may just being going through a stage. In saying that, it is important not to starve a puppy as they are going through a period of rapid growth. If they do get an upset stomach, we have found that pasta or rice with fish and chicken helps. If an older dog gets an upset stomach, starve them for 24 hours and then a light diet of pasta, rice, fish or egg. If this does not help, it is sensible to consult medical attention. We have also been adding some different foods to their meals to ensure they are used to having different tastes you may wish to carry this on, so far we have tried them with:

• Fish

• Ham

• Cheese

• Digestive biscuit

Generally we have not fed the puppies at set times in order for them to adjust better to your routine. The current feeding plan is as follows, however once your puppy grows you can look to the guidance on the back packets. Packets can over feed your dog, so be careful to keep an eye on their weight as an overweight dog is no fun for anyone. Generally the puppies are being fed every four hours from the hours of 6am to 8pm with a biscuit at 1030pm, but see how your puppy is. If they won’t eat, usually they are full and if they appear in distress usually they are hungry:

Breakfast

Late Morning

Mid afternoon

Dinner

Before Bed

Changing foods together with other reasons can cause diarrhoea. Diarrhoea is dangerous in puppies and adult dogs, this resource should help you in assessing the seriousness of the diarrhoea.
