Obedience
Obedience is a brilliant sport, I may be a bit bias. A dog it taught a series of movements which at a show it has to perform perfectly to move up a class. The main movements are heel work, where dog has to stick her shoulder to your left leg and perform a movements like that. If the dog moves from this position it looses points. Then the recall where you leave your dog and call it in, so it sits in front of you and retrieve, is where the dog waits for you to throw the dumbell and then goes out and brings it back. Then there is also a sit and a down stay in most of the classes.
The classes in obedience are as follows:
Contents |
Pre-beginner
This is where people who are reasonable new to obedience start. The class invloves heel on lead, heel free and a recall.
Beginner
Once you have a 1st in Pre-beginners you move up. This class involves heel on and off lead, recall and retrieve.
Novice
Once you have achieved two 1sts in Beginner you qualify into Novice never to return to beginner again even with a different dog! The novice round is simular to a beginner round.
A
This round is all of the above plus a send away, where the dog is sent to a marker and told to lie down.
B
This round is all of the above together with a scent, where the dog has to find the handlers sent, in a number of clothes placed out in the ring.
C
This is everything and more!
To compete in any of these classes is no mean feat, it takes years of practice and only a select few dogs are capable of achieving great things.
