Spaying and Neutering

Without a doubt all pet dogs should be spayed and neutered

Spaying Molly has reduced the risk of her getting breast cancer, uterine and ovarian cancers, and the life-threatening uterus infection known as pyometra- which kills many unspayed bitches within hours of them getting the condition

Doing this will enable your pet to be a fully fledged member of your family, without spaying or neutering will ensure that the majority of your pets attention goes on finding a mate.

Neutering a dog is the kindest thing you can do for him, as then he can relax and live his life fully, instead of being preoccupied with mating, when he is never allowed to do so. Such a practise could only be considered to be cruel.

A lot more thought should be given to spaying and neutering than the average pet owner give it, especially in bitches. Absolutely no bitch should be spayed before her first season. A bitches season matures the dog and makes her realise she is no longer a puppy. Spaying a puppy before her first season makes the dog stay a puppy for the rest of its life. I have seen such cases, the dog in uncontrollable, hard to train and hyper continuously. This is an unhappy consequence of lack of knowledge and the reason for many behaviour problems in bitches today.

Once your bitch has had her first season, you should then asses her temperament before spaying as once spayed the bitch will remain in the frame of mind for the rest of her life, however snappy or aggressive she is feeling during that part of her cycle. It is proven that a bitches temperament changes throughout her cycle and careful consideration should be given to her temperament at the time of spaying, as that is the frame of mind you will have to live with her the rest of her life. Many Vets spay half way between her seasons which is not always best for each bitch, you should decide when she is ready.
