Toys
A note about toys......
Toys are useful as they are an item which the dog can do what she wants with. She can understand that these are her toys and your best shoes are not hers to play with! Toys are good for teething, a puppy can understand that they can chew on that but not the antique table!
Distraction Toys:
•Kong toys, can be filled with treats, which will require the dog to chew on it to release the treats.
•Treat balls can hide treats. Only by moving the ball around with her nose, mouth and paws, can the dog get the treats.
TIPS
•Rotate your dog’s toys weekly by making only four or five toys available at a time. Keep a variety of types easily accessible. i.e something to:
to play tug with
to fetch
play kill with e.g. a soft toy!
•"Hide and Seek" is a fun game for dogs to play. "Found" toys are much more fun!
•Make your dog’s toys interactive. Interactive play reinforces the bond between you and your dog. E.g. returning a ball, Kong or Frisbee, or playing "hide-and-seek" with treats or toys.
Although puppies are very playful they also sleep a lot of the time. Therefore it’s essential to let your puppy have this sleep time which may last up to a couple of hours at a time. After this your puppy will be ready to play again!
